- There should be a brief introduction describing purpose of the exercise, the data and method used for determining distances, the method for locating the epicenter, etc.
- The body of the report should contain (not necessarily in this order):
- the location (name or latitude/longitude coordinates) of the epicenters determined by your calculations for three (3) earthquakes from the data supplied.
- a discussion of other populated areas that you think might have been effected by one of the three earthquakes.
- a discussion that centers on an educated guess or estimate of the relative effects of the earthquake at the three seismic stations for one of the earthquakes. Be sure to explain the reasoning behind your estimates. You may wish to consider:
- distances of the seismic stations from the epicenter
- the geological makeup of the land around the stations
- the population near the stations
- the typical building structures near the station
- or any other relevant considerations.
- Choose one of the seismic station sites above and discuss whether or not you think a tsunami was a concern during the earthquake. Explain your reasoning.
- The conclusion should briefly summarize the body and discuss any special considerations such as limitations in the data, error estimates of the calculations, etc.
4. All data and maps should be included in the report
