PHILOSOPHY:
The Writing Center is a free service to all UVI students. In the Writing Center you will find experienced Writing Specialists who, during a thirty minute one-on-one session, will work with you on any stage of a writing assignment or on your writing in general. The Specialists are not editors. They will not "fix" your writing; their goal is to move you toward independence in your writing skills. Until that time, your work with a tutor is most productive if you come to the thirty minute session with one or two reasonable goals in mind, such as "work on a thesis statement," "improve transitions," "work on the Results section of a lab report," etc.
APPOINTMENTS: You may drop by any of the four Writing Center areas during business hours, and if a Writing Specialist is available, you may receive help on the spot. If the Specialist is busy, you can make an appointment for a later time or date. Also, if you know in advance when you want to schedule an appointment, there is sign-up appointment sheet on the bulletin board in the Humanities building, on the bulletin board in the CA computer lab, and on a stand in the back of the library. You may sign-up for only one appointment per day.

MATERIALS: In order to effectively work with you on a particular assignment, the Writing Specialists need as much information as possible on the assignment, so please bring all materials to the session.
