PHY 242 Laboratory for 10/07/99

We are going on a field trip to WAPA. We will meet at the top of the CA parking lot at 2:00 pm sharp. We are expected at WAPA in Krum Bay at 2:15, so don't be late! I have been informed that the tour master will be Raphael Creque, a former physics major. So come prepared with questions! To get you prepped, please visit the following sites

• A general schematic of an electric power plant.

• A few cost details of an oil burning plant that has two units, each with roughly the capacity of the STT WAPA plant.

• A picture of a steam turbine similar to those that you will see.

• And check out this california desalination site. WAPA uses the waste steam from the electric turbines in a distillation process.
