Assume the earth is solid. You drill a hole to the center of the earth and lower a very long (about 4000 miles) ladder. You then walk down to the earth's center. Do you have weight at the center of the earth? Do you feel it? Think carefully about how gravitational attraction works. (Incidently, the earth actually has a hot molten core. So don't try this!) |
