A glass prism can easily be seen in air. It is clearly visible despite the fact that it is completely transparent. Consider carefully why this so. (Under the right conditions, a clean plate glass window may not be so easily seen!)
But when the prism is place in a beaker of clear vegetable oil, it is virtually invisible! Yet, it is still easy to see when submerged in air or even in water. Explain how this can happen? You will be presented with a demonstration in lab this week.
