Gauss's Law states that the total electric flux through any closed surface is proportional to the charge withing that closed surface. Mathematically, this is written as

Would Gauss's Law be valid if the electric field of a point charge was proportional to 1/ r 3 instead of 1/ r 2 ?

(Hint: As we did in class, consider the simplest case of a point charge located at the center of a Gaussian sphere.)
