The Physics 242 Puzzler

A point charge Q is located precisely at the back corner of a cube. Using Gauss's Law and symmetry, give (and justify) your answer to the following questions.

  1. What is the electric flux through each of the faces of the cube that contain the charge (i.e. those faces in the back of the diagram)?
  2. What is the electric flux through each of the faces of the cube that do not contain the charge (i.e. those in the foreground of the diagram)?

Your answers should be in terms of Q and eo . If you are trying to calculate an integral, you are going about it the hard way ... the really hard way!
