Please attach a statement about your reasons for choosing a major in the science, mathematics, engineering or technology field.  Indicate your career aspirations, and include information that you deem applicable to this scholarship.  Please be succinct.

The National Science Foundation, through this grant to the University of the Virgin Islands, aims to increase significantly the numbers of students enrolling in, and successfully completing, quality science, mathematics, engineering and technology (SMET) baccalaureate programs which will prepare them to pursue doctoral degrees in the SMET disciplines.

As a recipient of this scholarship,

  • You are expected to choose a mentor from the SMET faculty with whom you will be expected to collaborate in research throughout your undergraduate career.
  • You are expected to prepare for and take the GRE examination.
  • You are expected to apply for summer programs that emphasize research in SMET disciplines.
  • You are expected to apply to graduate programs in a SMET discipline.
  • You are expected to complete the terminal degree in the chosen SMET discipline.
