DIVISION OF SCIENCE AND MATH’S

BUILDING REPRESENTATIVES’ RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Represent the building of the Division of Science and Math at campus hurricane preparedness meetings.
  • Organize within the Division of Science and Math hurricane preparedness teams for protection of building contents at the scheduled phase of campus hurricane preparations.
  • Disseminate hurricane preparation instructions and procedures to the Division of Science and Math through team members.
  • Conduct an inventory of items needed for hurricane preparedness.
  • Receive hurricane preparation materials from Physical Plant Department at the scheduled stage of preparations.
  • Distribute hurricane preparation materials to Division of Science and Math’s building teams for use in protecting the buildings’ contents.

Representative's Role: to organize preparedness teams within one’s respective building

PREPAREDNESS

 

  • Meet with team members to review emergency operations plans.
  • Develop list of equipment and materials necessary to secure the contents of the building,
  • Assign areas of responsibility to team members.
  • Secure protective materials from Physical Plant.
  • Arrange to have pictures taken of office/building content(s).

PREPAREDNESS

 

  • Inform other faculty and staff about hurricane season procedures.
  • Implement protective measures in the event of a hurricane.


CHECKLIST FOR SCIENCE & MATH BUILDING FACULTY AND STAFF

 

PREPAREDNESS

 

  • Give the Division of Science and Math's building representative a list of equipment and materials of which you need to secure the contents of your assigned space (i.e., office, research lab, etc.).

EMERGENCY

 

  • Ensure that all sensitive equipment, radios, typewriters and computers are protected.
  • Close and protect all windows, shutters, and doors.
  • Secure all loose objects.

IMMEDIATE RECOVERY

 

  • Determine condition of office.
  • Remove possible hazards where possible (broken glass, etc.).
  • Assess and record damages.
  • Provide copy of damage assessment to the Division of Science and Math’s building representative.
  • Obtain cleaning equipment from Physical Plant.
  • Assist with clean up as much as possible.

**** IMPORTANT ****

IF YOU ARE ON LEAVE (annual, sick, etc.), COMPLETE TASKS IN THE CHECKLIST BEFORE LEAVING AND/OR DESIGNATE A HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS REPRESENTATIVE TO FULFILL THOSE FUNCTIONS.  INFORM THE SCIENCE AND MATH BUILDING REPRESENTATIVE WHO IS YOUR DESIGNATE.
