College of Science & Mathematics
Department of Mathematical Sciences
Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics
Students in the Applied Mathematics program will complete three years at UVI and two years at an affiliated university. At the end of the five years, the student will receive a Bachelor of Science from the University of the Virgin Islands and a Bachelor of Science in the chosen engineering discipline from the affiliated university. The engineering liaison officer is available to speak to current and prospective engineering majors regarding course planning, career opportunities, and preparation for graduate school. Entry level courses can be completed on either campus with certain upper level classes only offered on St. Thomas campus, but degree must be completed at another partner institution.
A student may also opt to complete another existing UVI bachelors degree by completing all those requirements before enrolling at the affiliated university for the B. S. in engineering. The University of the Virgin Islands has agreements with Columbia University, University of Florida, and University of South Carolina. The University of South Carolina and the University of Florida are members, along with the University of the Virgin Islands and Clemson University, of the SouthEast Alliance for Graduate Education to the Professoriate (SEAGEP).
Fields of Specialization:
The dual degree program offers a great deal of flexibility to students. Students follow a course of studies similar or identical to those taken by many of our science majors, while adding certain required courses. Interested students should consult with the engineering liaison officer early in their college career. Concentrations in Computational Biology and Computer Science are available.
