Full-time employees on regular appointments in the Executive, Administrative/Managerial, Teaching Faculty, Research faculty, and Professional Staff classifications are eligible to participate in the TIAA-CREF Long-Term Disability program at the end of one year of employment. The University pays the full cost of this benefit at this time.
Benefits begin on the first day of the month after six months of continuous disability and continue during the period of continuous disability based on age at the start of the disability.
A monthly benefit equal to 60 percent of the employee's monthly base wage is paid, up to a maximum of $2,000 per month. Benefits from other sources (i.e. Social Security, Worker's Compensation) are subtracted from the benefit first.
GERS retirement program participants with at least nine years of credited service who become permanently disabled are eligible for disability retirement.
