Ag Experiment Station Releases Analysis of St. Croix Land-Cover Changes
UVI's Agricultural Experiment Station has released the results of a land-cover change analysis in a technical bulletin. The Agroforestry research project used satellite images, aerial photographs and GIS software to map changes in the landscape of St. Croix over a ten-year period. The project found that forest, agriculture and development have interacted to cause a high degree of change in St. Croix. Reforestation and deforestation occurred in equal amounts and the resulting maps show how the change is clustered around existing developments in the lowlands. This technical bulletin and other Agroforestry publications are available for download from the AES-Agroforestry section of the UVI web site - www.uvi.edu - and from this direct link: /import/sites/uvi/Pages/publications.aspx?s=RE§ionCode=AES-Agroforestry. Printed copies can be obtained from Brian Daley of AES (692-4078) or Clarice Clark (692-4060) of the Cooperative Extension Service. This publication was made possible through a grant from UVI's Water Resources Research Institute.
