Theme Contest Announced for Afternoon on the Green 2011

Suggestions Sought by Dec. 6 from Students, Alumni, Faculty, Staff

Planning has begun for the 22nd year of Afternoon on the Green, which will take place on Sunday, March 13, 2011, when the grounds of the Herman E. Moore Golf Course on St. Thomas will come alive with food and entertainment. This year's event will take an environmentally conscious turn, in keeping with the University's new "go green" initiative.

UVI students, faculty, alumni and staff are being asked to create a theme for this year's event, which remains the traditional UVI friend-raiser that features home-cooked food and family fun.

Some themes from previous years were:

  • "An Inaugural Feast With an International Flair" (2010)
  • "Have a Roast of a Lime for the 20th Time" (2009)
  • "Be Seen on the Green for Cultural Cuisine" (2008)

The person who comes up with the winning theme will receive an Afternoon on the Green event tee shirt, an Afternoon on the Green poster suitable for framing and $10 worth of Afternoon on the Green taste tickets.

Theme suggestions should be sent to lmargol@uvi.edu by Monday, December 6th.

Each year hundreds of local residents, as well as visitors, come out to enjoy a day of outdoor food and entertainment at Afternoon on the Green. This year, all of the dishes will be offered for sampling at $3 a taste. Food is the key to Afternoon on the Green and volunteer cooks are needed. Simply call the UVI Institutional Advancement Office at 693-1040 and contribute your family's favorite dish.
