UVI to Close for Annual Holiday Recess; Three Kings Holiday

The University of the Virgin Islands will be closed from Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, through Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, for its annual holiday recess. University offices will reopen on their regular schedules on Tuesday, Jan. 3. UVI will also be closed on Friday, Jan. 6, in observance of the Three Kings Day holiday. The VI Small Business Development Center offices on St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John will observe the same holiday schedule.

UVI Senate to Meet Friday, Dec. 16

The UVI Senate will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16. The session will be available in the first-floor conference room of the Administration and Conference Center on St. Thomas and in Evans Center room 807 on St. Croix. The agenda will include continued discussion on the responses to UVI' peer review, the acceptable use policy and an update on the employee handbook. Meetings of the UVI Senate are open to all UVI students, faculty and staff.

Spring Semester Orientation Schedules Available

UVI's Spring Semester Orientation schedules are available from the Admissions section of the UVI website. Orientation will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, on UVI's campuses on St. Thomas and St. Croix. Spring Semester classes begin on Monday, Jan. 9.

UVI Math, English Placement Tests Scheduled for January

The University of the Virgin Islands is conducting placement testing for the Spring 2012 semester according to the following schedule. The math and English tests are computer-based and are administered simultaneously. A picture ID is required to take the placement tests.

St. Thomas Campus

Discount Reichhold Center Tickets Available to UVI Students, Faculty, Staff

UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts offers special discount ticket rates for UVI students, faculty and staff.

Reichhold shows in January include The Commodores at 8 p.m. on Jan. 14, and Angelina Ballerina: The Musical at 6 p.m. on Jan. 21. For details, visit the Reichhold Center website - www.reichholdcenter.com.

Buy individual tickets for select performances in the Reichhold Center Foundation Series and receive $10 off each ticket. Discounts are limited to two tickets per person per show. Purchase tickets for packages of four or five shows in the Foundation Series and receive $12 off each ticket (a savings of $8 to $60). Discounts are limited to two packages per person.

Discount tickets are only available for seats in the uncovered section. They cannot be combined with other discounts and apply only to new ticket purchases.

Sponsored Programs/Title III Issue New Internal Routing Form for Grant Applications

UVI's Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) and Title III has issued a new Internal Routing Form that should be used when circulating grant applications and contracts for internal approval. December Issue of dateline:UVI Now Available

The December issue of dateline: UVI, the monthly newsletter, is now available from the Public Relations section of the UVI website - direct link. This issue takes a look at the "SOS: Planting a Seed" pilot program on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on the St. Croix campus and the annual St. Thomas/St. John Agriculture and Food Fair. Online Registration for Spring and Summer Returning Students Now Available

Advisement and Online Registration for returning UVI students for the 2012 Spring Semester and Summer Sessions is now available. Online registration is mandatory for all continuing students. Online registration for the Spring Semester continues until Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012; thereafter, a late registration fee of $75 will be incurred.

Volume 25 of 'The Caribbean Writer' Available Holiday Sale

Volume 25 of "The Caribbean Writer" - UVI's international, refereed, literary journal with a Caribbean focus - is now available for just $15 per copy - a 40 percent holiday sale discount. National Student Exchange Applications Available at UVI

Applications are now available for UVI students who wish to participate in the National Student Exchange Program. Applications can be obtained at UVI's Counseling and Placement Centers on St. Thomas and St. Croix, and from this direct link. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, Jan. 20, 2012 on St. Croix, and Friday, Jan. 27, 2012 on St. Thomas. Contributors Sought for 'We Are UVI' Web Project

As part of the University's celebration of its 50th anniversary, the UVI website will offer a special, weekly feature throughout 2012 titled "We Are UVI." In it, memories from individuals who have had a close affiliation with UVI at some point in the last 50 years will be shared. This will offer a wide range of persons a chance to actively join in celebrating this grand event in UVI's history. Remembrances included in "We Are UVI" will consist of no more than 450 words describing a significant event in the contributor's UVI experience. They will also include "then" and "now" photographs of the author. Narratives are now being assembled for "We Are UVI" and persons interested in contributing or helping in any way with this project should contact Dr. Henry H.
