Street Beat is a critically acclaimed percussion and hip hop dance show playing to sold-out audiences around the country. Reichhold Center for the Arts' Family Series, along with the Virgin Islands Department of Education, present this evening of pulsating fun on Friday, February 18, 2011, 7 p.m. (Island Center, St. Croix) and Saturday, February 19, 2011, 7 p.m. (Reichhold Center, St. Thomas). This evening of family fun features a high-energy explosion of urban rhythm, hip hop moves, astonishing acrobatics. Street Beat draws strong comparison to the off-Broadway musical STOMP!

Town Hall Meeting on Climate Change and Public Health in the VI Set Feb. 11
The Virgin Islands public is invited to participate in a town hall-style meeting titled "Climate Change Impacts and Public Health in the Virgin Islands" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, at the University of the Virgin Islands' St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses.
The meeting will offer a review of the available information about linkages known to exist between climate change and public health in the Virgin Islands. Participants will be asked to join in a discussion about these linkages. They will also be encouraged to offer recommendations on how researchers might create effective methods of communicating important information about adapting to climate change (extreme weather, flooding) and public health issues (fish poisoning - ciguatera - and dengue fever).
The town hall sessions will be available to the public - via video conference - in the first floor conference room in the Administration and Conference Center on UVI's St. Thomas campus and in Evans Center Room 401 on the St. Croix campus.

Online Registration Available for Male Empowerment Conference
An online registration form is now available for individuals interested in participating in a male empowerment conference at the University of the Virgin Islands on St. Thomas on Feb. 8, and on St. Croix on Feb. 10. The conference, which is designed to help male high school juniors and seniors, and young men who want to return to the academic track realize their potential, is organized by UVI and the Virgin Islands Department of Education. The theme is: "Man-Up: Realize your Potential - Tools and Resources for Males on the Journey Toward a Successful Life." The fundamental message is that there is something very powerful about staying on an academic path and attaining a post-secondary education.
The conference keynote speaker will be American businessman and motivational speaker Farrah Gray, a self-made millionaire by the age of 14. The internationally recognized R&B singing, rapping and songwriting duo known as Rock City (V.I. natives and brothers Timothy and Theron Thomas) is slated to perform.

Free HIV/AIDS Testing Offered Feb. 7 on St. Thomas Campus
Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, has been designated Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on UVI's St. Thomas campus. Free HIV/AIDS testing will be available for any members of the UVI community from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 7, at the UVI Bookstore parking lot. Health Services on St. Thomas Campus offers Stress Relief Hour
UVI's Health Services Office on the St. Thomas campus offers free, 10 minute chair massage sessions to any UVI students, faculty and staff on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The "Health Services Stress Relief Hour" massage sessions feature natural healing resonance (sound and toning) therapy. Dean to Begin Luncheon Meeting Series Feb. 1 with STEM Majors on St. Thomas

Students can register for the tests in the Access and Enrollment Services Office in Evans Center Room 811. Testing begins promptly at 9 a.m. on each test date. Latecomers will not be allowed to take the test. The cost associated with CLEP tests is $77 per test; make check or money order payable to CLEP. An additional administrative fee of $15 is payable to UVI prior to the test date. A separate check and/or money order must be written for each test. Cash will not be accepted. Students are advised that the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) test dates for the Spring 2011 semester have been finalized on the St. Thomas campus. CLEP tests will be administered on Feb. 9, Feb. 25, March 8, March 24 and April 11, in the CATS computer lab (CA Building Room 123). Students can register for the test at the Office of Access and Enrollment Services' front desk, located on the first floor of the Administration and Conference Center.
Test candidates must report to the test site no later than 9:30 a.m. on test days with appropriate identification and form of payment. Acceptable forms of identification include a current driver's license, state or federal ID, a current passport, tribal ID card, naturalization card or certificate of citizenship. The cost associated with CLEP is $77 (payable to College Board) per test and an additional administrative fee of $15 (payable to UVI prior to the test date). Free VIUCEDD Workshops for Siblings/Care Takers of Disabled Set for Feb. 7 & 9
Workshops for the siblings, family members, caretakers and service providers of persons with developmental and mental health disabilities will be offered at UVI on St. Thomas on Monday, Feb. 7, and on Wednesday, Feb. 9, on St. Croix. The workshops are hosted by the University of the Virgin Islands-Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD).
Both sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The St. Thomas workshop will take place in UVI's Administration and Conference Center. On St. Croix the workshop will be held in the Great Hall, located in the North West Wing Building.
The workshops will address the specific concerns and the unique needs of siblings and family members. Continuing support and future care planning will also be covered.

UVICELL to Offer Basic QuickBooks Training on St. Thomas
The University of the Virgin Islands - Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UVICELL) Center will offer a course for individuals and small businesses who are interested in learning to use QuickBooks, the full-featured small business accounting software.
Introduction to QuickBooks will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning Feb. 2, on the St. Thomas Campus. Participants will learn how to set up a standard list of accounts, manage accounts receivable and payable, reconcile bank accounts, track credit card transactions and much more.

UVICELL to Offer Bookkeeping Course Beginning in March
The University of the Virgin Islands - Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UVICELL) Center will offer courses for individuals interested in acquiring basic bookkeeping skills beginning in March on St. Thomas and St. Croix.
On St. Thomas, Intro to Bookkeeping will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday starting March 1, at the UVICELL Center on the St. Thomas campus. On St. Croix, classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. every Wednesday and Thursday starting March 2, at the UVICELL Center in Frederiksted.
Participants will learn to perform basic bookkeeping functions such as journalizing and posting business transactions, preparing basic financial statements, reconciling bank statements, preparing payroll and much more.
