Part of the Caribbean chain of islands stretching from the southern tip of Florida to the northern coast of Argentina; St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John are among the over 100 islands, islets, and cays that compose both the American and British Virgin Islands. Located approximately 1700 miles south of New York, 1100 miles southeast of Miami, and 40 miles east of San Juan, Puerto Rico; Point Udall on the island of St. Croix has the distinction of being the easternmost point in the entire United States.
In its short history, the U.S. Virgin Islands have seen seven flags fluttering in the breezes above its shores. From their discovery in 1493 by Christopher Columbus to their purchase by the United States on August 4th, 1916, the U.S. Virgin Islands has enjoyed a very rich and flavorful heritage.
