Humpback Whales Sighted in Brewers Bay Near UVI

February 14, 2017 - Two humpback whales and a calf were spotted on Monday, Feb. 13, in Brewers Bay, near the University of the Virgin Islands in the early morning hours. Bystanders suspect that one of the whales gave birth to the calf last night in the bay, but this is unconfirmed. Read More

VI Marine Advisory Service Implements Mangrove Planting Project

February 14, 2017 - The Virgin Islands Marine Advisory Service (VIMAS) has just implemented its Mangrove Planting Project at two schools on St. Thomas: Lockhart Elementary School and Addelita Cancryn Junior High School. The project recruits K-12 students to help rebuild red mangrove forests on St. Thomas, 50 -75 percent of which have been lost to development over the last century.Read More

UVI Board Approves Honorary Degree for U.S. Supreme Court Justice

February 01, 2017 - In a special session on Jan. 31, the University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees reconvened in executive session to complete the agenda of their Jan. 19, meeting, which was adjourned in executive session. While in executive session, the Board ratified actions taken by the Executive Committee to award an honorary degree to the Honorable Sonia Sotomayor, United States Supreme Court justice. Read More

February 01, 2017 - The public is invited to attend the 46th Annual Agriculture and Food Fair of the US Virgin Islands from Feb. 18-20, at the Rudolph Shulterbrandt Agricultural Complex, at Estate Lower Love onN St. Croix. The theme is “Agriculture: Our Heritage & Hope for the Future!” The entrance fee is $6 for adults, $3 for children, and $4 for senior citizens. VI Educators Reduce Marine Debris & Educate Youth with UVI Grant

January 19, 2017 - Fifteen Virgin Islands educators have been awarded $26,648 for marine environmental projects that aim to educate and reduce pollution in the ocean. The “Pride in our Seas, Pride in Ourselves: Preventing Land-Based Sources of Marine Debris in the USVI through Educational Transformation and Community Engagement” project was made possible by a $99,411 marine debris education and prevention grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Marine Debris Program.Read More

January 04, 2017 - The University of the Virgin Islands is pleased to welcome Dr. Kevin L. Williams as its new Vice Provost for Access and Enrollment Services. Dr. Williams comes to UVI having served in leadership roles in enrollment management, admissions, retention and diversity – most recently at Talladega College in Alabama, but also at Mississippi Valley State University, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Ross University and others. January 03, 2017 - Spring semester classes at the University of the Virgin Islands are scheduled to begin on Monday, Jan. 9. Online registration for continuing UVI students is available, with access through the University’s BanWeb registration and student information portal. Late registration for new and continuing students is set for Thursday, Jan. 5.
