Q: How do I apply for the Associate Degree Nursing Program on St. Croix? A: Click here for Admission information. Q: What financial aid programs are available for nursing students? A: Click here for Financial Aid information. Q: Why should I consider UVI for my nursing education? A: Small class size and individual attention are important features of our program. We have no teaching assistants. All our faculty members spend at least seven hours per week holding office hours so they can be available to assist students. Of course, the nice weather in the Virgin Islands can't be forgotten. The tropical trade winds blow virtually year round and the Caribbean Sea is clear and inviting. As an NLNAC-accredited nursing program in America's Paradise, we offer a high-quality program in a lovely Caribbean setting. For more information about St. Croix, click here. Q: What will my classmates be like? A: Nursing students at UVI come from many places. The multicultural nature of our student body enhances the experience for all. Many of our students are Virgin Islanders, born on the island of St. Croix or St. Thomas. We also have students from Africa and Asia. Students from the mainland are increasingly finding UVI a great place to study. Currently we have students from California, Michigan, Florida, Oregon, Washington and Louisiana. Dormitories are available on both campuses. Q: What is the hospital like where I will be doing my clinical experiences? A: The Juan F. Luis Hospital is a 188 bed general hospital, accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. Students receive clinical instruction on various units, including medical-surgical, pediatrics, obstetrics, nursery, intensive care, ER, and psychiatry. Students also enjoy rotations through the cardiac cath lab, gastroenterology lab and hemodialysis. Students receive instruction in, and utilize, the hospital's computerized patient documentation system and automated medication delivery system. For more information about the hospital, click here. Q: What are NCLEX pass rates for the Associate Degree Program? A: Since a new curriculum was instituted in 1998, the first time pass rates on the NCLEX-RN exam average 85%. Q: Is there a waiting list for admission? A: No, we have space available at the present time. |
