Nursing Graduates Shine at Pinning Ceremony

The 2003 graduates of the Associate of Science in Nursing Program, were welcomed into the profession of nursing during a beautiful and moving ceremony at Government House last night.  The seven graduate nurses were joined by three previous Associate Degree RNs who have gone on to complete their Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree on St. Croix.

Ms. Janzie Allmacher, MSN, RN, mistress of ceremonies for the evening, welcomed dignitaries from the University of the Virgin Islands and the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center.  Dr. Lloyd Henry, Medical Director at the hospital Anatomy and Physiology at UVI, spoke about the importance of caring and commitment as they embark on their new careers.  He encouraged them all to pursue their dreams and urged them to continue their education.  Following Dr. Henry's remarks, the graduates made presentations to the faculty, expressing appreciation for their commitment, dedication and excellence.

Families and friends of the graduates were all smiles as they participated in the celebration.  Each graduate selected someone special to come forward and pin them. Mothers of the graduates took center stage as their help and encouragement was repeatedly acknowledged.  Once the pins were in place, the graduates lit the Nightingale lamps and recited the International Nurses' Pledge.

After marching out to XPress Band's version of "Celebrate", the graduates joined family, friends and faculty at a catered reception.
