Alumna Shares Research

Safiya George, RN, MSN/APRN, a native of St. Croix and a 1997 graduate to the University of the Virgin Islands Associate Degree Nursing program on St. Croix,  presented her research paper today at the Fourteenth Annual Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Research Congress being held on St. Thomas.   Her research, an analysis of the literature on antiretroviral therapy from 1997 to the present, including the most current guidelines for treatment of non-pregnant adults, was intended to be utilized to formulate protocols for advance practice nurses and physicians assistants to use when prescribing treatment for HIV  positive patients. Ms. George’s presentation was well received by those in attendance, many of whom are actively involved in the treatment of HIV positive patients.

Ms. George is a doctoral candidate at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
