| UVI President Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster embarked on an initiative during fall 2003 to reach out to the institution's alumni. The President had the pleasure of personally meeting with and hearing from hundreds of alumni. This provided the opportunity for Dr. Ragster to explain her vision for the University and the role that alumni will play in its growth and development. To facilitate alumni involvement in the institution, Dr. Ragster's initiative also includes providing training for the leadership of the Alumni Association, a step begun in August 2004 at a Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund (TMSF) session on St. Thomas.
Alumni participated in meetings and receptions in the Washington, D.C. metro area and St. Thomas in October and November of 2003, respectively. In 2004, alumni in the British Virgin Islands attended a reception in March and others on St. Croix gathered on the grounds of the St. Croix campus Great House in August to meet with the president.
An upcoming reception is scheduled for Atlanta, Georgia in October. Plans are underway to coordinate similar activities for alumni in Dominica, Antigua, St. Maarten, Anguilla and Florida.
