| UVI President Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster embarked on an initiative during fall 2003 to reach out to the institution's alumni. The President had the pleasure of personally meeting with and hearing from hundreds of alumni. This provided the opportunity for Dr. Ragster to explain her vision for the University and the role that alumni will play in its growth and development. To facilitate alumni involvement in the institution, Dr. Ragster's initiative also includes providing training for the leadership of the Alumni Association, a step begun in August 2004 at a Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund (TMSF) session on St. Thomas.
Alumni participated in meetings and receptions to meet the President in the Washington, D.C. metro area and St. Thomas in October and November 2003, respectively. In 2004, alumni in the British Virgin Islands attended a reception in March and others on St. Croix at the campus Great House in August.
President Ragster continued her initiative in October 2004 as she joined alumni from the South Atlantic Group at a reception hosted at alumna Imani Marley-Husbands' home in Stone Mountain, Ga.
Plans are underway to coordinate similar activities for alumni in Dominica, Antigua, St. Maarten, Anguilla and Florida.
