UVI's Lady Buccaneers capped an undefeated 8-0 season and captured their first Inter-University Sports Organization (ODI) basketball championship Thursday, April 3, defeating the University of Puerto Rico-Metropolitan 62-52 in overtime. UVI and Metropolitan were tied 50-50 at the end of regulation play.

It was a sweet win for the Bucs, especially since their only loss in last year's season came at the hands of Metropolitan in a semi-final game. The Lady Bucs defeated Metropolitan by four points in their first game of this season.

On Thursday the Lady Bucs poured in 12 points in overtime, holding Metropolitan to just two. Rena Stephens, who was named game MVP, led the Bucs with 19 points, scoring 15 of those in the second half. Diana Palmer added 17, including three 3-pointers. Elbe Brathwaite contributed 11 points and turned in a strong rebounding performance.
