On UVI's St. Thomas campus the Fall semester got off to a fast start with a "Round-de-Campus" relay race on Friday, August 23.
The racers started at the Security Office (Penha House) making their way up the hill to the Music Building where they traded off batons with teammates. The race continued behind the library, down the pump house road, through a path on the golf course, ending where it started at the Security office. Racers traded batons at different posts. Four dorm blocks competed. They were the Warriors, Cobras, Invaders and Predators. The Predators won the race with Shaka Goodwin crossing the finish line first. Other members on the Predators team were Luke Garth, Andrea Rivera, Adil Karam, Kairann George and Delano Hunt.
About 15 spectators gathered to watch the race, with Chancellor Dr. John Leipzig signaling the start of the race using a bullhorn. Housing Supervisor Sean Georges drove the "media car" while resident assistant coordinator Bonnilyn Thomas caught the entire race on videotape.
The "Round-de-Campus" relay race was just one activity of a fun-filled weekend that included Full Moon Vibrations on the Green, a picnic dinner and a Kontiki Cruise with P'Your Passion. More activities are scheduled for Labor Day Weekend.
