UVI Music Program Christmas Concert
Scheduled Dec. 1 at the Reichhold Center

The University of the Virgin Islands Humanities and Social Sciences Division will present the Music Program's Annual Christmas Concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec.1, at the Reichhold Center for the Arts. The UVI Concert Band and the UVI Concert Choir will perform under the direction of Prof. Austin A. Venzen. The Jazz Ensemble will be directed by Prof. Martin J. Lamkin and Shenelle Warner will direct the Steel Pan Ensemble.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. They may be purchased at the Reichhold Center Box Office, Dockside Bookstore in the Havensight Mall, the UVI Bookstore and the Humanities Division office. For details, call 693-1191.

Budget Checking and Online Approvals
Effective Today on BANNER System

Effective today, Nov, 15, 2007, Budget Checking and Online Approvals in UVI's BANNER system have been turned on. What this means for budget managers is that they will see all invoices for payment and purchase requisitions set up for purchase orders and payments in their approval queue.

If there are any documents for approval in the approver's queue, upon first signing into BANNER, the approver will be notified. After receiving the document from the administrative assistant the approver should go into the form FOAUAPP and you will see the document(s) for approval.

Theme Suggestions Sought
for 2008 Afternoon on the Green

The Afternoon on the Green Committee would like the UVI community to contribute ideas for the 2008 event's theme. The annual friendraiser will mark its 19th year on the green when it gets underway on March 9, 2008.

Please be creative. The person or area that contributes the winning theme will be entitled to Afternoon on the Green tee shirts. Some ideas to date: "Lean and Mean at 19 on the Green" and "Create a Scene at the 19th Afternoon on the Green."

Applications Being Accepted
for National Student Exchange Program

UVI's Counseling and Placement Centers on the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses are accepting applications for the National Student Exchange Program (NSE). The program includes more than 200 schools in the mainland United States, along with Hawaii, Guam, Alaska, Canada and Puerto Rico. It offers an opportunity to explore a different culture, enroll in courses not presently offered at UVI, explore graduate schools, and make new friends. Workshop on National Student Exchange
Program Set Nov. 29 on St. Croix Campus

An information workshop highlighting the National Student Exchange (NSE) program is scheduled on UVI's St. Thomas campus for noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29. The Croix will be held in the Counseling and Placement Office in rooms 720 and 721 of the Evans Center. Junior students with Gaps of 3.0 or higher are eligible for the NSE program. Sophomore students interested in the program are also encouraged to attend the workshop. Individuals who have participated in the NSE program will be on hand to share their experiences. Paradise Jam 2007 Opens Nov. 16
at UVI's Sports and Fitness Center

The eighth annual U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam basketball tournament opens Friday, Nov. 16, with play in the men's division at UVI's Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas campus.

Eight NCAA Division I men's basketball teams will be in action, with the championship games slated for Monday, Nov. 19. Games in the women's section of the tournament begin on Nov. 22, with championship round action set for Nov. 25. Ten highly ranked, NCAA Division I women's teams will participate.

Tickets - $10 for V.I. residents and $5 for UVI students (with ID) - are available from Modern Music in Havensight and at the UVI Bookstore. St. Thomas/St. John Ag Fair
Scheduled Nov. 17-18

The St. Thomas/St. John Agriculture and Food Fair is set for Saturday, Nov. 17, and Sunday, Nov. 18, on the grounds of UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts. The Fair will open at 10 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. both days. Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr., UVI President LaVerne E. Ragster, and UVI's Cooperative Extension Service (CES) State Director Kwame Garcia, Sr., have been invited to the opening ceremony, which will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday. This year's theme is "Make Agriculture Our Haven for 2007."

Student Music Recital Set Nov. 18
on UVI's St. Thomas Campus

A recital by UVI students enrolled in the Music Program on the St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18. The program will include voice and instrumental performances. The public is invited to this free event in the UVI Music Building. For details, call 693-1191.

Inventory of UVI Assets
Continues This Week

UVI's Purchasing Department has announced that the annual inventory of University assets on both campuses will be conducted by American Appraisal Associates (AAA) during the week beginning Nov. 12. Representatives from American Appraisal will visit all UVI buildings and offices inventorying and tagging University equipment. A University security officer or other designated University personnel will accompany AAA representatives.

To facilitate this project, UVI personnel are asked to do the following:

  • Identify any personal property in your office so it is not counted as University property.
  • Bring all small equipment (laptop computers, digital cameras, etc.) that are University property to your office so that it can be inventoried.
  • Identify all property that was purchased by federal funds.

St. Thomas Health Services Schedule

The Health Services Office on UVI's St. Thomas campus has announced the following change in office hours.

  • Nov. 13-20: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Nov. 21: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Nov. 22-23: Closed for Thanksgiving and Discovery Day

The Health Services Office will resume regular hours on Monday, Nov. 26. The office is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A physician is available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 1 p.m. For details, contact Health Services Supervisor Ronda Hatchett at 693-1124.

UVI to Close Nov. 22-25
for Thanksgiving/Fortsberg Break

The University of the Virgin Islands will be closed from Nov. 22 through 25 in observance of the Thanksgiving Day and Fortsberg Day, holidays. Classes will resume and University administrative offices will open on their regular schedules on Monday, Nov. 26.

Student Worker Request Forms
Being Accepted for Spring 2008

The St. Thomas campus Office of Student Employment is accepting Request for Student Worker forms for the Spring 2008 semester. Supervisors that have students with existing Student Record of Appointments (SROA) that continue through the Spring 2008 semester, should not complete a request form, however, you must complete the student evaluation form as requested. Online Registration Under Way
for Spring 2008 Semester

The University of the Virgin Islands has posted class schedules and detailed registration information for its 2008 Spring Semester classes on the UVI web site. The Spring Semester on the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses begins on Monday, Jan. 14, 2008 and ends on Sunday, May 4, 2008. Returning students can register on-line through Tuesday, Dec. 18. Students should consult with their advisors for course approval and to obtain PIN assignments that are needed for online registration. Registration of new students is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008. Details are available from the BUCSS link on the UVI home page - http://www.uvi.edu - or from this direct link.

Accounting Association Participating
in Salvation Army Food Drive

The UVI Accounting Association (UVIAA) will participate in the Salvation Army's annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Donations from the UVI community will be accepted daily from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at the UVIAA "Pate Corner" in front of the Business Education Building on the St. Thomas campus. Students Offer Music Recital on Nov. 25

UVI music students Danielle Greenaway and Eugenia Chapman will present a student music recital at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25, at the Nisky Moravian Church. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Nominations Open for Who's Who Among
American Colleges & Universities

Nominees for inclusion in the Who's Who Among Students at American Colleges and Universities publication are being accepted by UVI's Counseling and Placement Center. This prestigious designation is bestowed upon senior students who have achieved a GPA of 3.2 or higher and have demonstrated campus involvement and/or leadership skills. In addition to receiving local and national recognition, Who's Who nominees are automatically eligible for the Who's Who Among Students scholarships. Nomination applications are available at UVI Counseling and Placement Center. Nomination applications and supporting documents must be received by Monday, Nov. 26. VI-WRRI Issues Call for Proposals
on Water Resources Projects

The Virgin Islands Water Resources Research Institute (VI-WRRI) at the University of the Virgin Islands has issued a call for project proposals for the 2008-2009 U.S. Geological Survey Water Institute Program. Proposals that address water resources issues in the U.S. Virgin Islands are being sought. All UVI faculty and staff are eligible to apply for these funds through the VI-WRRI. Collaborations with non-UVI personnel are allowed. Approximately $80,000 will be available for USVI projects. Projects in the $15,000 to $20,000 range are preferred. Second Annual Woodworkers
Expo Set for Dec. 7-9 on St. Croix

The University of the Virgin Islands' Cooperative Extension Service and the St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix Wood Workers Society announce the second annual Virgin Islands Woodworkers Expo. USVI Agriculture and Food Fair
Set for Feb. 16-18 on St. Croix

The Agriculture and Food Fair of the U.S. Virgin Islands will be held Feb.16-18, 2008 on St. Croix. The theme is - The Business of Agriculture: The Way Forward. Coed Volleyball Semifinals Set Nov. 15 on St. Thomas

Semifinal action in the St. Thomas campus intramural coed volleyball league is scheduled for today (Thursday, Nov. 15). In tourney action last week, Ballzonya defeated Super Nerds, and Spikers beat Game Point. Both matches were won with tie-breakers and made for exciting spectating.

Archery, Tennis, Table Tennis Coming to St. Thomas

Intramural competition in archery, singles tennis and table tennis on the St. Thomas campus is just around the corner. Interested students, staff or faculty should contact Prof. Erik Heikkila at 693-1213.

St. Croix Intramural Tennis Starts

St. Croix intramural tennis league players are advised to check the draw sheet posted in the Student Lounge for their opponent and time of play. Winners should report the score to Intramural Coordinator Bruce Wray at 692-4139.

Intramural Archery Tourney Set on St. Croix

The Fall 2007 intramural archery tournament on St. Croix will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Nov. 21. The competition includes categories for men's, women's and coed teams (one male/one female). To register, or for details, contact Bruce Wray at 692-4139.
