New & Updated Items posted Jan. 3, 2008 Faculty, Staff, Students Invited to Jan. 10 The 2008 Conversation with President Ragster is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10. The session will be available in the following campus locations: on St. Croix in EC-401, EC-713 and EC-302A; and on St. Thomas in T-101, T-213, B-110 and the CELL Center classroom. UVI faculty, staff and students are invited. For details, contact the Office of the President at 693-1000. CES 4-H Group to Participate Approximately 15 members of the St. Thomas 4-H group sponsored by the Cooperative Extension Service, along with several participants from the 4-H Summer Camp and the CYFAR after school program will participate in the St. Croix Festival Children's Parade scheduled Friday, Jan. 4. The group will also be represented by Nyere Francis Jr., who is the reigning St. Thomas Junior King of the Band winner, and Sundra Martinez, the current St. Thomas Junior Queen of the Band competition winner. Both will compete for the same titles on St. Croix. UVI Holiday Break Includes Jan. 4 and 7; The University of the Virgin Islands concludes its holiday break with observance of the St. Croix Christmas Festival on Friday, Jan. 4, and the Three Kings Day holiday on Monday, Jan. 7. UVI administrative offices will reopen on their regular schedules on Tuesday, Jan. 8. UVI's Small Business Development Center (SBDC) offices on St. Thomas and St. Croix will observe the same schedule. Placement Exams Scheduled Although UVI is officially closed in observance of Three Kings Day on Monday, Jan. 7, English and Math placement exams will be offered to new students on the St. Thomas campus on that day. UVI Schedules Math Placement Exam UVI's Division of Science and Mathematics has announced that new, incoming Spring Semester 2008 students, whose Math SAT scores are below 490, are required to take a Math Placement Examination. Students taking the exam are required to bring two No. 2 pencils, a graphing calculator and a picture ID. The testing schedule is as follows:
President Ragster to be Guest UVI President Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster will be a guest on the UVI radio program "Afternoon Mix" on Monday, Jan. 7. The program airs from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays on WVWI - Radio One - AM 1000. |
Spring Semester 2008 - Notes: New Student Registration Set Jan. 9; Registration of new students is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008. Late registration - which requires a $50 fee - is scheduled for Jan. 10 and 11, 2008. The Spring Semester on the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses begins on Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, and ends on Sunday, May 4, 2008. Spring Semester New Student The student orientation schedules for UVI's 2008 Spring Semester are now available on the UVI web site - http://www.uvi.edu. The schedules can be accessed from the "Academics" page, the "Student Life Services" page and from this direct link. Other Current Items ... Space Available in RPS Tent UVI offices and programs are invited to include their exhibits as part of the University's Research and Public Service tent at the Feb. 16-18 Agriculture and Food Fair on St. Croix. One table and two chairs will be provided per exhibit. Reservations of space must be made by Jan. 11, 2008. Requests made after Jan. 11 may not be accepted due to space limitations. Send email to Clarice Clarke - cclarke@uvi.edu - to make reservations. Exhibits should be interactive and should reflect the fair's theme - "The Business of Agriculture - The Way Forward." Kassav Brings Zouk to UVI's The sweet sounds of zouk music will fill the air when Reichhold Center for the Arts hosts Kassav - the top live band in the Caribbean - at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008. From the shores of Martinique and Guadeloupe to the bright lights of Paris and the vibrant streets of New York, Kassav traverses the globe as ambassadors of zouk music. Zouk is an eclectic mix of popular rhythms from the Caribbean that make you want to dance. Kassav's brand of zouk combines strong sounds of percussive instruments and horns with synthetic rhythms. St. Thomas Class of 2008 A meeting for all prospective graduates of UVI's St. Thomas campus class of 2008 is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008. The session will take place at 6 p.m. in the conference room of the Administration and Conference Center. The meeting's agenda will include the selection of a class speaker and class colors.
