February 5, 2004 UVI to Offer Free Endocrinology Short Course The University of the Virgin Islands in cooperation with the Endocrine Society will offer an Endocrinology Short Course from February 17-24 on the St. Thomas campus. The course is free and open to students and members of the community. Endocrinology is the study of systems that use hormones to regulate the performance of tissues and organs in humans and animals. Adrenaline, cortisol, and insulin are examples of hormones. Dr. Thomas D. Landefeld, an associate dean for faculty affairs and scholarly activities at California State University, Dominguez Hills, will instruct the course. Biology and nursing students, along with health care professionals and those interested in understanding health and disease processes are encouraged to attend the short course. Students who register and complete the course will receive one college credit. Everyone who completes the course will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Endocrine Society. Dr. Landefeld will also make a presentation at a public forum scheduled for 7-7:50 p.m. on Thursday, February 19 in Room T-101 on the St. Thomas campus.
