The University of the Virgin Islands has appointed Edward Alexander as the Director of Admissions and Registrar. Overall Alexander is responsible for creating procedures to take potential students seamlessly from the recruitment phase, to admission to the University, to class registration. He is developing a comprehensive recruitment plan that will include students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni and friends of the University, with the mission of increasing enrollment in accordance with Vision 2012 – UVI's strategic plan. A comprehensive plan will help his area "start off with a good foundation," he said to "build steady growth."

Alexander said a focus of his area will be to provide the highest level of customer service. Because UVI's St. Thomas campus administrative offices have been consolidated into one location, student registration on that island in December and January should be visibly efficient, he said. "One of the plusses of being in the same building is that we've cut out the campus runaround," he said, "everyone is working together in the same environment."

Alexander's previous appointment was at the University of Phoenix where he was the Corporate Education liaison. He has also served in various management capacities at five other colleges and universities, including Barber Scotia College, Jacksonville University, Bethune Cookman University and Winston Salem State University.

Alexander holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Barber Scotia College and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.

A graduate of Central High School on St. Croix, Alexander said he is happy to serve the Virgin Islands' community. "It's an honor and privilege for me to come back to the Virgin Islands and give something back by helping people make a difference in their lives," he said.
