UVI CES to Present Results of Agri-Tourism Linkage Project |
||
|
Farmers, producers, restaurateurs, hoteliers and persons interested in agriculture are invited to hear the results of a study on the link between agriculture and tourism in the Virgin Islands. The information should give a clear picture on how the agriculture and hospitality industries can have an improved and strengthened relationship. The Southern Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program funded the project which is titled “Trade, Tenure and Tourism in the U.S. Virgin Islands: Understanding the policy frameworks that will increase success for a sustainable and organic agriculture.” The presentations will be held on St. Croix from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 17, at the University of the Virgin Islands Great Hall, and on St. Thomas, Tuesday, March 18, at UVI’s Administration and Conference Center (formerly known as the Harvey Building), from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Governor John P. deJongh, members of his cabinet, and UVI personnel will give remarks. Members of the Legislature will be in attendance. Project Director Dr. Eric Wailes, of the University of Arkansas, will present the key findings of the study. The University of the Virgin Islands Cooperative Extension Service and the University of Arkansas have been involved in this research project for the past four-and-a-half years. The project is presented in partnership with the V.I. Department of Agriculture, V.I. Department of Tourism, the University of Arkansas, and the Southern Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program. For details, contact Stafford Crossman, acting assistant director of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Program, at 692-4071. |
