Representatives from 11 Law Schools, V.I. Bar
to Attend UVI's Second Caribbean Law Fair

The University of the Virgin Islands will host its second annual Caribbean Law Fair in conjunction with the Thurgood Marshall School of Law on March 28 on the St. Thomas campus and March 31 on the St. Croix campus.

During the fairs, representatives from 11 U.S. law schools and the V.I. Bar Association will visit with students and other individuals interested in pursuing careers in law.

Edward René, assistant dean of admissions at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law, noted that students attending last year's law fair days at UVI "were eager and receptive to the wealth of knowledge (available) from law school representatives." René said that the fair is "orchestrated to maximize the time of both the students and the law school representatives. He also added that he was "looking forward to attending (this year's) Caribbean law fair."

Thurgood Marshall is working with UVI's Counseling and Placement Offices on both campuses to organize the fair. Verna Rivers, counseling supervisor on St. Thomas, said the fair is targeted at UVI students, the general public and invited high school students.

Doris Farrington-Hepburn, the counseling supervisor on St. Croix, added that Law Fair activities were serving as the opening day of Career Exploration Week 2008 on her campus.

Law fair activities on St. Thomas are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Friday, March 28, in UVI's Administration and Conference Center building. Morning and afternoon sessions will include presentations from the school representatives. There will also be time for interested students to speak directly with individuals representing the various law schools.

On St. Croix, the fair's sessions are slated from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Monday, March 31, in the Great Hall of the North West Wing.

Participating law schools include those from the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota), the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law, the University of Richmond (Virginia), Florida Coastal University, Texas Southern University (Thurgood Marshall School of Law), Tulane University, the University of Memphis, Touro College (New York), Widener University (Delaware), South Texas University and the New York Law School.

For more information, contact Verna Rivers on St. Thomas at 693-1087 or Doris Farrington-Hepburn on St. Croix at 692-4187 or 692-4180.
