||
|
The University of the Virgin Islands is the recipient of a grant of $92,335 from the United States Geological Survey. This grant will be used to support research activities proposed by the Virgin Islands Water Resources Research Institute, at UVI, during the period of March 1, 2008 to February 28, 2009. Research supported by this grant will include the use of wetland plants in enhancing water quality in fish production systems, an analysis of guts on St. Croix, an assessment of the safety of cistern water supplies and an investigation of the use of water resources maps in planning for development. The grant will also support a conference on water resources issues affecting the U.S. Virgin Islands. These activities will be conducted by faculty and students at UVI in collaboration with other researchers. Research results will be available to the public through newsletters and other publications and also through seminars and workshops. Studies conducted through the water institute develop information and gather data that is essential for management of the water resources of the Virgin Islands. Persons requiring additional information may contact the UVI Water Resources Research Institute at 693-1062. |
