UVI Alumnae Take Leadership Positions in the BVI |

|
Two University of the Virgin Islands alumnae have recently been appointed to leadership positions in the Government of the British Virgin Islands. Carolyn O'Neal-Williams has been appointed as Secretary General of the UNESCO National Commission and Oleanvine Maynard has been appointed as acting Chief Labour Officer. In her position, O'Neal-Williams is responsible for managing the activities of the BVI's United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) secretariat, coordinating UNESCO projects and liaising with UNESCO Headquarters. She is also an adjunct lecturer in Spanish at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College. She has previously served as a UNESCO representative and foreign languages coordinator at the BVI UNESCO office, as the foreign languages coordinator for the Ministry of Education and Culture, as a teacher and as the head of the Spanish Department at the BVI High School. Among her degrees, O'Neal-Williams holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of the Virgin Islands. In her position as acting Chief Labour Officer, Maynard serves as the government's chief advisor in the development and implementation of labor policy. She also plans, directs and controls the overall functions of the Labour Department. Among her degrees, Maynard holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration with a concentration in management, an associate's degree in accounting, and an associate's degree in office administration from the University of the Virgin Islands. Her 20 years of public service include working in the Chief Minister's Office, the Judge's Chambers, the Ministry of Finance and the Police, Facilities and Customs Departments, before being appointed acting clerk of the then Legislative Council. In the private sector Maynard has also worked at the former Chase Manhattan Bank in the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. |
