UVI Alumni to Host Picnic in Georgia |
||
|
All UVI alumni, their friends and families, and the general public are invited to attend the 2nd Annual Alumni Picnic from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, in Lithonia, Georgia. The event is hosted by the UVI South Atlantic Region Alumni Chapter and will be held at the Bransby Outdoor YMCA. This "Virgin Islands styled" picnic promises to be fun and will include activities such as tennis, sand-court volleyball games, a three-on-three basketball tournament, sack races and a moonwalk. Imani Marley-Husbands, chapter president, said that last year's event was a total success. "Despite the overcast sky, hundreds showed up to enjoy music, watch their kids play in the sand box, join in a sack race and participate in the activities in the pool," Marley-Husbands said. She encourages everyone to come out, bring a lawn chair or a blanket and have a good time. DJ Patrick will provide the music and Mocko Jumbies will provide other entertainment. Barbeque, food and drinks will be on sale. "Aside from the good food and entertainment, it is a chance for UVI alumni from five states to network, join the association, meet and greet UVI President Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster and impart their knowledge into rising seniors," Marley-Husbands said. She added that some graduates are just not aware of how to be good alumni. "We are the ambassadors for the University. The success record of our alma mater is not written down in a book or on a stat sheet, it is evident in the testimonials of our graduates, our careers, discoveries and dissertations that our education or our 'home by the sea' prepared us for." UVI alumni and people of the Virgin Islands who live in or will be visiting Georgia are encouraged to attend. For directions, send a request to uvi_sarac@yahoo.com.
