St. Croix, USVI.
What to bring:
Dress is casual. The classroom is air-conditioned but field studies will be under hot, sunny conditions. Shorts and T-shirt are acceptable, a bathing suit will be needed for some field study. Sunglasses, hats and sunscreen will make outside sessions more enjoyable. Please bring writing materials, pens, pencils, and paper and a hand calculator. Still and video cameras are encouraged but not required.
Travel to St. Croix:
Please fly to St. Croix. US Virgin Islands, Airport code: STX.
St. Croix is served by American Airlines with daily direct flights from Miami.
American Eagle provides connecting service through San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU).
Other US and International carriers use the San Juan, Puerto Rico airport (SJU) as a hub and connect to St. Croix with commuter shuttle airlines.

The following information is provided as a service to participants attending the course. It is not inclusive of all accomodations available on St. Croix.
A car rental would be needed to stay at these hotels that have been enjoyed by other participants in past years.
- The Arawak Bay Inn at Salt River - a bed and breakfast within a 15 minutes drive from the UVI campus.
- $109 plus 19% tax for a total of $129.71 per night.
- Discovery Grove Eco Retreat -
- $35/night per person, double occupancy
- $70/night per person, single occupancy.
- Northside Valley has eco-friendly houses on the West End of St. Croix. The owner will coordinate lodging of individuals in groups or rent entire houses to families.
- Jasmine Manor - a guest house in the town of Frederiksted.
Condominiums with full kitchen facilities.
Hotels in Christiansted are close to the taxi stops and course participitants would not need a car rental.

Meals can be purchased from the university cafeteria. Breakfast and lunch: $5-10, dinner: $10-15.
Local transportation:
On your arrival, taxi service is available from the airport to your hotel (price varries).
Cars can be rented from Avis, Hertz and Budget or other local agencies for travel around the island.
Taxi vans and public busses have pick-up points at the campus entrance for transportation around the island during the class.

St. George Village Botanical Garden, tropical gardens of annuals, shrubs and trees of the VI.
Fort Christiansvaern, part of the Christiansted National Historic Site.
