Science 100 needs excellent students to serve as Teaching Assistants, called Peer Instructors, to assist with teaching of Science 100. These Peer Instructors must be prepared to serve as role models for students enrolled in Science 100 Labs and Classes. Most students enrolled in Science 100 class are freshmen who need guidance in Science 100 as well as preparation for future classes at UVI. Science 100 class is partly designed to be a retention tool for assuring that students are prepared so that they will be able to continue their career at UVI. Normally Peer Instructors have had Science 100 and have excellent GPAs
Specific duties vary, but most Peer Instructors:
-Serve as a lab assistant in at least one 3 hour lab. These labs are taught Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The weekday labs run from 9-12 and 2-5, the weekend labs 9-12 and 1-4. There must be time on applicant's schedule for one of these labs.
-Attend one lecture of Science 100 on Monday and one on Wednesday. The classes to choose from are 11 AM MW,
4 PM MW, and 5:30 PM MW. Students must attend class and assist with administering and grading Pop Quizzes and Exams.
-Attend occasional meetings with other Peer Instructors
-Other duties sometimes include supervising Campus Wide Experiences, coping, etc |
