The College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences (CLASS) is one of five distinguished and diverse academic units of the University of the Virgin Islands. CLASS covers the gamut from social sciences, in general, to psychology, humanities, music, art, theatre and an emerging program in criminal justice. The College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences offers majors in the humanities, communications, English with concentrations in the literature of the African diaspora, creative writing and journalism. The University of the Virgin Islands music education major has set the bar very high for our graduates across the Virgin Islands and the wider Caribbean. The University of Virgin Islands speech communication and theatre major has groomed alumni who have made significant impacts in this area across the region. Additionally, distinguished individuals such as Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott, have taught in the program. The Social Sciences Program has been a stalwart program over the years and in many respects has had marked impact on local and regional leaders in the political economy and the psychological landscape of the Virgin Islands and the Caribbean. Majors in criminal justice and psychology are pivotal in terms of the thrust of UVI's large programs. Together with the general social sciences major and social work major any and all of these programs and majors of CLASS offer prospective students an excellent opportunity to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others.
