Sophia McKenzie
I came to The University of the Virgin Islands as an undergraduate after studying aquatic biology for two years at Texas State University. My move was inspired by my love of marine habitats and adventure. At UVI, I received a Bachelor of Science in marine biology. I have coordinated efforts to restore mangrove habitats which include derelict vessel removal, habitat monitoring, and community outreach. The goal of my thesis is to determine the biophysical influence on abundance and diversity of corals growing on the prop roots of mangrove trees in Hurricane Hole, St. John, USVI. I am interested in conservation, restoration, and enforcement of environmental laws. I enjoy traveling, music, sustainable living, and the art of making coffee. |
