The tutorial/advising centers began limited operation on both the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses of UVI during the 2005-2006 academic year.

During its first two semesters of limited operation, the CATS (Campus Advising and Tutorial Services) Center provided primarily tutorial services for a total of 147 students in mathematics, biology and chemistry. The HBCU-UP grant provided funds to support five of the student tutors that provided tutorial services during this time. The CATS Center is also supported by Title III.

- Science and Mathematics Enrichment Center, UVI St. Croix Campus
On the campus of UVI St. Croix, the Science and Mathematics Enrichment Center began limited operation in January 2006 with six hours per day, Monday through Friday, and evidentially expanded to weekday evening and weekend hours. The Center provided primarily tutorial and homework assistance to a total of 35 students in mathematics and science. Of the 35 students served, 21 (60 percent) returned two or more times.
