Coral Reef Discovery Week 2012

This is a free, fun and intense hands-on course for students seriously interested in studying coastal, marine & environmental science, natural resource management, and conservation, and in learning about careers in these topics. The week involves short presentations and lectures from UVI faculty, staff, and community partners, and will be focused on learning scientific techniques with tools in the field. Space is limited to 12 USVI and BVI students between the ages of 15 and 19. Learn more . . .

Need to make up credits or retake a course to improve your GPA? The UVICELL Center now offers an online alternative to help you keep on track to earn your high school diploma. The Summer School Credit Recovery Program features courses in high school mathematics, science and language arts. These nationally accredited courses can be completed in 4 weeks. This online program is available anytime, anywhere. Students can work at their own pace based on schedules and capabilities. Learn more . . .

Mathematics Behind the Science is a residential STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) college preparation program that serves students who will enter college as freshmen in the fall, or students already attending UVI who have successfully completed MAT 024. It is intended to serve as a bridge between high school curriculum and expectations at university. The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) is an eight week non-residential research program open to UVI students majoring in science, mathematics or engineering interested in conducting interdisciplinary research with a faculty member. The Summer Sophomore Research Institute (SSRI) is a six week, residential program open to rising sophomores or rising juniors. Participants in the SSRI program, SSRI Fellows, will work with faculty on a research project. In addition, fellows in the SSRI program will be exposed to workshops. The Developing Global Leaders course is intended to provide a foundation for nurturing future leaders in a global environment. Its multi-discipline program and activities equip students with a broad knowledge and functional skills necessary to assume future leadership roles in a global dynamic environment. The Upward Bound Program provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program serves high school students from low-income families and/or high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. Summer program participants will live in a residence hall on the University of the Virgin Islands’ campuses (St. Croix and St. Thomas). Get in the Groove this summer with the UVI-CES 4-H Summer Academy, is an exemplary six-week summer day camp program promoting academic excellence though experiential learning for youth 5-14 years of age. Youth participate in educational programs, field trips, and outdoor activities. These interest-based, age-appropriate, educational programs focus on the three mission mandates of the 4-H program: Science, Engineering and Technology, Healthy Living, and Citizenship. The Virgin Islands Writing Project (VIWP) is celebrating its 10th anniversary with approximately 26 teachers in the Territory who will learn new strategies to improve their students' writing skills, the latest research and effective classroom practices.
