Content Publishing Training

Decentralized website management has been utilized by the University of the Virgin Islands since 1994.  The home page is controlled by the Public Relations Office, which adds releases to the News & Updates, as well as information for the news archive, Bulletin Board and events calendar. The Public Relations Office updates About UVI, Strategic Plans, Reichhold Center for the Arts and Public Relations website sections of the UVI website.  UVI’s official Facebook, YouTube channel and blogs (We are UVI and UVI Today photo blog) are also maintained by the Public Relations Office.  UVI components and departments are responsible developing content for their respective sections of the website.  The webmaster manages the UVI website and assists components with their layout, graphics and audience development needs.

In 2008, UVI integrated the Microsoft SharePoint 2007 content management system.  Content contributors have the ability to add and edit certain page content without IT support.  SharePoint provides state-of-the-art content management features including scheduling, workflow and project management.  For security reasons, content management features are only available to trained users and cannot be used by regular site visitors.

Training sessions for UVI website contributors are conducted each semester. Individuals interested in managing their department’s section of the UVI website. During the first level of training, participants will learn how to log-in to SharePoint, utilize the page edit menu; navigate the tool bar menus to edit a page, layout a page, and make a table; preview a webpage, and publish a webpage.  During the second level of training, participants will learn how to upload graphics, forms and brochures into their respective websites.  Training is available for UVI faculty & staff only.
