The production of uniform size tilapia fingerlings is an integral part of the Aquaculture Program's research effort as it would be an integral component of a commercial farm. The nursery system consists of 12 rearing tanks which, if operated optimally, could produce 100,000 fingerlings each year.
The nursery system components include:
12 rearing tanks 500 gallon each (2 m3)
1 drum filter 60 micron mesh
operates on a float valve system
1 biofilter 2 m3 Kaldanus beads
1 circulating pump
1 regenerative blower 1 1/2 hp
1 shade roof
