Caribbean STEM Research Programs


Emerging Caribbean Scientists Programs, University of the Virgin Islands:

  • NIH MARC Research Trainee Program - Seminars, mentoring, scholarships, research stipends, and funding for off-island research experiences for undergraduate students interested in earning a Ph.D. in Biomedicine, Psychology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Marine Biology, and Physics.
  • NSF HBCU-UP Research Scholar Program - Scholarships and stipends for (on-island and off-island) student research experiences in all Science and Mathematics fields.
  • NIH MBRS-RISE Scholars Program - Seminars and mentoring for students interested in careers in Biomedicine including Biology, Psychology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, and Marine Biology.
  • NSF HBCU-UP Summer Sophomore Research Institute - Summer stipends and housing for Biology, Chemistry, Marine Biology, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science sophomores & juniors to research and attend research methods workshops within their disciplines.
  • NSF HBCU-UP Summer Undergraduate Research Experience - Summer stipends (and housing assistance, if needed) while researching with a faculty mentor, and attending weekly research meetings and presentations.

ECS scholarship and summer research applications are typically due each year on February 28. To be considered, students must be admitted to UVI, complete an application form, have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 to 3.0 depending on the program, and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Agriculture Experiment Station, University of the Virgin Islands 

  • The Agricultural Experiment Station on the St. Croix campus has funds available to support students who wish to work in one of our research programs during the Fall, Spring, and/or Summer semesters.  Students have the option of working in Animal Science, Aquaculture, Biotechnology & Agroforestry, Horticulture or Forage Agronomy.  Students will be paid for their time and have the opportunity to conduct a research project if they desire.  Interested students should contact the respective Program Leaders on St Croix:  

US National Park Service, St. Croix

  • will be seeking to hire a qualified Biological Science Technician under the Student Career Experience Program. The most attractive applicants will be close to the completion of their degree program. The best candidates will have experience in advanced scientific diving, boat operation, working long/irregular hours, have physical and mental toughness to excel in both tropical terrestrial and tropical marine field conditions, and a broad range of knowledge and experience in conservation and management .
