The University of the Virgin Islands has been served by five presidents. Dr. David Hall is the current president, having been selected by the University's Board of Trustees in March of 2009. Dr. Hall took office on Aug. 1, 2009. His official inauguration took place on Saturday, March 6, 2010.

Dr. Hall was preceded by Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster, who became the University's fourth president and first woman to serve in that position in 2002. Dr. Orville E. Kean served as the third president from 1990 to 2002. Dr. Arthur A. Richards served as the second president of UVI from 1980 to 1990. The University's first president was Dr. Lawrence C. Wanlass. He served from 1962 to 1980, when the institution was named the College of the Virgin Islands.
