Financial Aid - Scholarships


University of the Virgin Islands scholarships are available for incoming local high school students and currently enrolled University students. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of demonstrated scholastic ability. The minimum required grade point average is a "B."  UVI scholarships

Scholarship announcements are generally made during the month of February for the upcoming academic year, at which time scholarship applications will be available in the Office of Institutional Advancement, Financial Aid Offices, UVI Libraries, local high schools and on this web page.

Application DeadlineRequirements  

UVI's general annual scholarship application deadline is March 1. 

To be considered a student must:
  • complete the University's scholarship application
  • have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • be a resident of the Virgin Islands
  • have appropriate SAT scores *
  • have applied for Admission to the University

* a minimum of 490-Math and 500-Verbal is required on the SAT test for 4-year scholarship consideration

  • UVI High School Scholarship Application - Application for prospective 2013 high school graduates within the United States Virgin Islands planning to attend UVI.
  • UVI Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarship Application - Application for current continuing UVI students seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree.

UVI Scholarship Application Period for 2013-14 School Year Closed March 1, 2013.

 

UVI Scholarship Opportunities

Here is a partial list of available scholarships. Students are also encouraged to seek out other local and national scholarship programs.

SCHOLARSHIP NAMEDESCRIPTION
Jane E. Tuitt Scholarship 4-year scholarship pays tuition, fees, contracted room and board, and an allowance for books.
VAL/SAL Scholarship4-year scholarship for eligible students graduating as valedictorians and salutatorians at local high schools. Same benefits as Jane E. Tuitt.
Adele Galiber Music Scholarship4-year scholarship for a Music Education major. Same benefits as Jane E. Tuitt.
Thurgood Marshall Scholarship1-year award. Recipient must have a minimum SAT score of 1100, and must be a U.S. citizen.
Bank of Nova Scotia Scholarship 1-year award worth $2500.
India Association Scholarship 1-year award.
V.I. Rum Scholarship ** 1-year award.
Addelita Cancryn Scholarship ** 1-year award.
EDC Scholarship ** 1-year award.
Emerging Caribbean Scientists Programs (ECS)

6 scholarship and research programs sharing 1 common application for Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Marine Biology, Mathematics, Nursing, Physics, Psychology and Process Technology students. Each year, we support more than 70 students with scholarships, research stipends, book awards and travel to conferences.

** Unless otherwise indicated, most one-year awards range from $1,000 to $2,500.
The number of scholarships offered in each category varies depending on money allocated by the contributing donor/agency.
