Remarks:
Congratulations to Dr. Denis Griffith for his outstanding commitment to the School of Education over the years.  Your amiable personality, your integrity, and your expert leadership have been a source of attraction for the many students who choose to attend the School of Education.  The books that you have authored have provided profound insights on pertinent issues related to school leadership. Many of our school administrators have been prepared for their various roles through your instrumentality.  In this regard, you have helped this University to realize its mission of producing successful students and of enhancing the lives of the people in the territory and the wider Caribbean. We are grateful for your unselfish service in the many committees on which you have cheerfully served, including the weighty responsibility of chairing the Graduation Commencement Committee for many years. Best wishes on your retirement and may the years ahead be filled with the memories of the many lives you have touched and changed forever, and for your invaluable contribution to education.

Remarks:
Congratulations to my mentor, my chair (Boss!!) and my friend! There are no words to express my gratitude for your support, your love, your prayers and devotion to us as faculty, the students and the Univeristy. Know that we love you, will miss you and know that you gave us far more than we gave you. In my case I know I gave you some grief, but I hope you are proud of my efforts to develop and emulate you. When you have a man with 54 years of education experience at your fingertips that is an invaluable resource to have. Every question I have ever had you always had the answer! They can replace the position but they can never replace the man. You are the greatest, I owe you a great debt of gratitude and a ton of thanks especially for having the patience to let me develop!!! Have a great retirement you have earned and deserve every minute. God bless and Gods speed Dr. Griffith. There is hardly a person on the Island of St. Croix that you have not touched, or guided their lives with a positive steady hand. In a way you are the Face of Education for St. Croix. Teacher, Principal, Professor & Mentor you have truly done it all! You have helped me, guided me, prodded me and even lectured me, but never in a harsh or demanding way. You are truly a man who has always spoken softly and never had to carry a big stick. That was due to the immense amount of respect you earned from everyone you were in contact with. Thank you again from myself and Debbie for all your help and praise.

Remarks:
Congratulations on your retirement after so many years of dedicated service to the University of the Virgin Islands. You have certainly earned it and I hope that you have a fufilled and happy period of "downtime." You have certainly been an inspiration to those like myself who are seeking to become an accomplished academic. I have considered you to be a great colleague, mentor and friend in the School of Education. I will certainly strive for your eye of perfection and I thank you for pointing out my errors, errors that have no business in the academic world. It is the job of those who profess, to be accurate in their information, for if we are not accurate, then we are less than truthful in what we say and do. I have always counted on you to tell it like it is and now what I wanted to hear!! One only has to look at the marvelous University of The Virgin Islands Catalog to see your often unacknowledged contributions to this University. I can only hope to approach the exacting level at which you see the world of academia. You demanded more of both your students, your colleagues and your college. I know at the time many complained about how hard Dr. Howard was or, she expects our work to be perfect? Well I am sure now if asked, they would say "thank-you Dr. Howard for demanding more from me." If you don't set your standards high, how can you ever hope to improve and perform at a higher level? Well I am standing here saying bravo Dr. Howard for a job well done!
