Special Announcement for May 5, 2011

May is Mental Health Month and Clear Blue Sky, Inc., in collaboration with the UVI's Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD), will present a Forum on Mental Illness in the Virgin Islands from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday, May 12, in the Administration and Conference Center on the University's St. Thomas campus.

The forum is designed to encourage awareness and understanding by the public of mental health issues and the services that are available to help people with a mental illness get well, stay well and progress beyond the confines of mental illness. The forum will also feature a panel of service providers who work with individuals along the continuum of a mental illness.

The forum's special guest speaker will be Evan Gerrard, a training coordinator with Genesis Club in Worcester, Mass., and the International Center for Clubhouse Development (ICCD). The ICCD is a global resource for communities creating solutions for people with mental illness. It helps communities around the world create ICCD Clubhouses, which are community centers that give people with mental illness hope and opportunities to reach their full potential.

Gerrard will discuss the Clear Blue Sky Clubhouse model. The public is invited to take advantage of this opportunity to change perceptions and take control of mental illness in the U.S. Virgin Islands. For details contact VIUCEDD Program Coordinator Andrea Plunkett at (340) 693-1173.
