Beginning with the 2019-2020 academic year, students who have graduated from secondary school in the U.S. Virgin Islands will have one less concern about their college careers: tuition payments. Agrifest 2019 Set for Feb. 16-18: “VI Agriculture: Still Growing in 2019”

The public is invited to attend the 48th Annual Agriculture and Food Fair of the Virgin Islands from Feb. 16-18 at the Rudolph Shulterbrandt Agricultural Complex, Estate Lower Love on St. Croix. The theme is “VI Agriculture: Still Growing in 2019!” The entrance fee is $6 for adults, $4 for children, and $5 for senior citizens. The fair will open daily from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., with the opening ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16. read more

For the first time, students from St. Croix will have an opportunity to participate in the popular Youth Ocean Explorers (YOE) program this summer. Based at the University of the Virgin Islands, YOE is a marine science-based summer enrichment opportunity that aims to increase students’ interest and engagement in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and the ocean sciences. read more

UVI Board Approves Free Tuition Policies & Procedures

In a special session on Jan. 23, the University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees approved policies and procedures to aide with the implementation of Act No. 8155, the Virgin Islands Higher Education Scholarship Program, which requires that financial aid be granted to residents of the Virgin Islands for post-secondary education at UVI. The Board voted unanimously to approve the policies and procedures, with several amendments. read more

UVI’s Spring Semester Begins Jan. 14; New Student Orientation Set for Jan. 8 – 11

Spring semester classes at the University of the Virgin Islands are scheduled to begin on Monday, Jan. 14. Online registration for continuing UVI students is available, with access through the University’s BanWeb registration and mycampus portal. Late registration for new and continuing students is set for Friday, Jan. 11. UVI Mourns the Loss of First CVI President, Dr. Lawrence Wanlass

On Tuesday, Dec. 18, the first president of the University of the Virgin Islands, Dr. Lawrence Wanlass, passed away in California. He is survived by his wife, Anita, and their four children. For nearly two decades – from 1962 to 1980 – Wanlass worked to establish the then College of the Virgin Islands and to create a world-class curriculum for its students. read more

UVI Welcomes New Professor of Data Science

The University of the Virgin Islands welcomes Dr. Joanne Sylvia Luciano to the University’s College of Science and Mathematics. She will work in the department of Computer and Computational Sciences to develop curriculum in Data Science. This multidisciplinary field blends data inference, algorithm development, and technology in order to solve analytically complex problems. Data science is ultimately about using this data in creative ways to generate business value while being sensitive to and respectful of data privacy, data security, data stewardship and the ethical use of data. The incoming professor has so far proposed two new courses in Health Web Science and will be teaching a special topics course in Data Science this spring read more

The University of the Virgin Islands Alumni Call Center is hosting its 3rd annual Thank-a-Thon from Nov. 21-28. Alumni will be phoned and thanked for their contributions to UVI over the years. The Thank-a-Thon is primarily powered by highly trained UVI students and seeks to show appreciation for the support shown by the alumni and global community. read more
