UVI Students Awarded Record Number of National Title III Scholarships

Four University of the Virgin Islands students were awarded National Association of Historically Black Colleges and Universities Title III Administrators, Inc. scholarships in September. “This is the largest number of students that have won in a single competition in the history of UVI’s participation in the competition, and this speaks well of the quality of the students at the institution,” said UVI Title III Coordinator Dayle Barry. more

UVI to Observe World Food Day on Oct. 18 - 20

On Friday, Oct. 18, the University of the Virgin Islands Cooperative Extension Service (CES) begins its World Food Day observance with a “Hunger Banquet” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Great Hall on the University of the Virgin Islands Albert A. Sheen Campus, on St. Croix. This event is open to fourth through ninth graders, representatives from the Department of Education, and other community leaders. read more

UVI to Receive $28.6 Million from EDA to Support Efforts to Diversify & Strengthen Medical Sector in V.I.

The U.S. Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced on Sept. 30, that it is investing $28.6 million in the University of the Virgin Islands to support efforts to diversify and strengthen the resiliency of the economy by helping to grow the medical sector, primarily by investing in the medical school project and the medical simulation center. The two grants, to be located in a Tax Cuts and Jobs Act designated Opportunity Zone, will be matched with $3 million in local funds, and are expected to help generate $35 million in private investment. read more

UVI to Tentatively Open on Wednesday, Sept. 25

The University of the Virgin Islands announces that classes and offices are tentatively set to open on Wednesday, Sept. 25. As the Territory is expected to receive rainfall from Tropical Storm Karen on Tuesday evening, the University will provide an update at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday to give a final determination as to whether offices and classes will be open. read more

UVI to Close at Noon on Sept. 23 in Advance of TS Karen

The University of the Virgin Islands will close at noon today as the Territory prepares for the arrival of Tropical Storm Karen, which is expected to impact the U.S. Virgin Islands on Tuesday, Sept. 24. All non-essential UVI employees are asked to prepare their respective work areas prior to leaving at noon today. UVI classes are cancelled at noon as well. read more

UVI Continues to Monitor Hurricane Jerry

The University of the Virgin Islands continues to monitor all activity associated with Hurricane Jerry. According to the National Hurricane Center’s 8 a.m. advisory, Hurricane Jerry is located at 18.5 north and 59.6 west with maximum sustained winds of 100 miles per hour. Its present movement is at 16 miles per hour. There are no watches or warnings in effect for the U.S. Virgin Islands. read more

Miss UVI 2019-2020, Sherquan Henry, will compete in the 2019 National Black College Alumni (NBCA) Hall of Fame Queens pageant from Sept. 25 to Sept. 29, in Atlanta, Ga., at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Henry will compete against college queens from Historically Black Colleges and University’s (HBCU) around the nation for the title of Miss NBCA Hall of Fame.
