VI Homeowners Urged to Seek Help for Bat Removal

With the start of the 2018 hurricane season on June 1, Virgin Islands homeowners still heavily focused on repairing structures damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria are urged to contact Dr. Renata Platenberg if bats have taken up residence in your home. Platenberg, assistant professor of Natural Resource Management at the University of the Virgin Islands, has a permit from the Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) to handle and care for bats. more

New Member Appointed to UVI’s Board of Trustees

A new member had been appointed to the University of the Virgin Islands’ (UVI) Board of Trustees. Dr. John A. Quelch was appointed by Gov. Kenneth Mapp to fill the vacant position on the Board. He has been appointed to join its 12-member body and will fill the vacancy left by former Trustee Carol Fulp. His appointment came into effect on April 4, 2018. read more

UVI Rewards Students for Innovation & Entrepreneurship

University of the Virgin Islands Hackathon participants, Business Design Program participants, 13D competition competitors and UVIDEA club officers of both the Albert A. Sheen and St. Thomas Campuses were recognized at the first Annual Innovation and Entrepreneurship gala luncheon held on Saturday, May 12. This event celebrated the growing innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem at UVI. The Hackathon, Business Design Program, and 13D competition students all received awards. read more

UVI Announces Winners for 2018 Research Day

The University of the Virgin Islands announces the students and faculty winners of the 7th annual Research Day held in Spring 2018. Of the 32 undergraduate student entries on the St. Thomas Campus, Shantae Lewis from the College of Science and Mathematics emerged as the winner on the St. Thomas Campus. read more

New Student Orientation for Summer 2018 Set – July 11 – 12

The University of the Virgin Islands will hold Summer Orientation from Wednesday, July 11 to Thursday, July 12, for new students enrolling on both campuses. All newly accepted students are required to participate in orientation activities prior to the start of the semester for academic advising and development of their class schedules. Orientation also includes sessions to introduce new students to UVI, networking with other students and instructors, campus tours, an official welcome from UVI President David Hall and a National Student Exchange meeting. read more

Over 300 Degrees to be Awarded at UVIs 2018 Commencement Ceremonies

This year the University of the Virgin Islands will confer over 300 degrees students at the University’s 54th commencement ceremonies on the St. Thomas Campus and on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. The ceremony will take place on the St. Thomas Campus on May 17, in the Sports and Fitness Center and on the grounds of the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix on May 18. Both campuses will hold the ceremonies at 1:30 p.m. The keynote address will be delivered by acclaimed actor, producer, political activist and humanitarian Danny Glover who will receive an honorary degree from the University. read more

First Ever Large Scale Mangrove Cleanup in the Territory Nets Thousands of Pounds of Debris

The Great Mangrove Cleanup, the first large-scale community cleanup of the St. Thomas East End Reserves (STEER), took place last Saturday, April 21. STEER is a marine protected area on the east end of St. Thomas. One hundred twenty-six volunteers gathered to remove debris, large and small, from STEER’s mangrove shorelines. read more
