Allmacher, Janzie B, MSN, RN, CEN, ACNS-BC

Assistant Professor of Nursing
School of Nursing

Research interests and specialties are emergency nursing, medical surgical nursing, pediatric nursing, Middle-Eastern dance, non-traditional teaching, and pathophysiology.

I am an ER nurse through and through. I knew when I was in nursing school and did a rotation in a busy Emergency Department, that I had found my love. I am an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with a specialty in Emergency Nursing. I have been a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) since 1980 when certification became available and I am nationally certified as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - Board Certified (APRN-BC), a Clinical Specialist (CS), and a Clinical Specialist in Acute and Critical Care (CCNS). My last position prior to moving to St. Croix was as the ER Clinical Specialist for a hospital in the Bronx, New York that cared for 70,000 ER patients per year.

I have lived in St. Croix full-time since 1994 after my husband and I moved from Westchester County, New York. We came from the small town that we had grown up in and were accustomed to a multicultural population, and knowing a lot of people. St. Croix is very similar to the environment from which I came, except that it’s tropical so living here is very comfortable for us.

I joined the nursing faculty of UVI, St. Croix Campus in August of 2000. Prior to that, for close to five years, I was the Head Nurse-Clinical Nurse Specialist for a free standing ER within the Department of Health on St. Croix.

My philosophy of Nursing is excellence in practice, dignity in caring and my personal philosophy is to live life with adventure and passion. For me, adventure means challenge, and passion is commitment. Following my philosophies has allowed me to encounter new exciting, dramatic, thought provoking, humorous and sometimes difficult situations; most of which have been valuable learning experiences.

In addition to Nursing, my other professional love is Middle Eastern Dance which I have been involved in since the early eighties. I have performed extensively, taught dance for a long time and continue to enjoy it thoroughly. In the fall 2001 semester, I initiated Middle Eastern Dance as a Physical Education course within the Division of Education at UVI.
