Dr. Lewis joined UVI after a career in law enforcement. Prior to reentering academia, Dr. Lewis was a computer crimes investigator assigned to the U.S. Secret Service’s Colorado Electronic Crimes Task Force. With his years of real-world experience, coupled with his academic experiences, Dr. Lewis has become an expert in the field of cybersecurity, focusing on digital forensics (computer forensics, mobile device forensics, and network forensics).

Dr. Lewis' research interests lie in the field of cybersecurity and digital forensics, as well as computer science education. With his experience as a Computer Crimes Investigator, Dr. Lewis has a unique insight that he brings to academia about how digital forensic investigations are conducted and how technology can be improved to expedite these investigations.

Dr. Lewis is also conducting research into why students choose to major in computer science at the college level, what steps can be taken in the student's K-12 education to increase their likelihood of declaring and succeeding in a computer science major, and what steps will help students already enrolled as computer science majors to graduate with a computer science degree.
