Buccaneers Remain Perfect in Paradise Jam Play Defeating Católica 70-54 (Game Photos)

UVI's Buccaneers are perfect in Paradise Jam play. The Bucs downed fellow LAI league opponents Católica University of Ponce 70-54, moving their Paradise Jam Record to 2-0. And while Saturday's matchup wasn't quite as thrilling as last year's 73-70 last-second win over LAI rival UPR-Metropolitan, the large hometown crowd was appreciative.

Católica is a perennial power in the LAI league's Manuel Division. UVI, which plays in the Beitia Division, has played Católica only twice in the past, in post-season, interdivision playoffs. Liga Atletica Interuniversitaria (LAI) has 21 teams, with 20 of those on Puerto Rico. The early win bodes well for a season that UVI Head Coach Sean Georges said will be bringing some of the Beitia Division's top squads to the Sports and Fitness Center hardwood. The Bucs were 8-8 in LAI play last season, with a 4-1 record at home. "It's good to have the tough teams at home," Georges added.
